# Boring and Dull Day

Oregon and Scotland have seemingly few things in common, – West coast climates, a shared love of brewed beer. And they share similarly vapid-titled cities: Boring, Oregon and Dull, Scotland. The commonality is celebrated annually on Aug 9th, officially titled “Boring and Dull Day.”

The folklore of Boring and Dull Day began in 2012 when a Scottish tourist, Elizabeth Leighton, travelled through Clackamas County and discovered the bland connection between Oregon and Scotland. 

Leighton's idea of making Boring and Dull sister cities came to fruition when the community of Boring adopted a declaration that annointed the cities as a “Pair for the Ages.” Later, the Oregon State Legislature passed a law establishing Aug 9th as Boring and Dull Day throughout the state. 

The pair made national news, and a year later, in 2013, Bland, Australia joined the “Trinity of Tedium.” Now, 13 years later, the celebration is still going strong. The community comes together each year for an event filled with entertainment – live music, food, a bouncy house and a variety of vendors. 

This year, the “Boring & Dull Day Community Car Show” will be held at Jerry's Car Barn, with a collection of over 100 cars. Attendees can submit cars for the show with registration and a $15 fee, with a chance of winning one of the five awards. 

The event takes place between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., with the annual Boring & Dull Day 8-9 Raffle Drawing beginning at 5 p.m.. Attendees can purchase the $10 tickets and enter to win one of the 40 prizes, with a combined value of over $7,000\. 

According to Steve Bates, President and Secretary of the Boring Oregon Foundation, “As in the past, the Boring & Dull Day Community events serve two purposes: bringing our community together and raising funds for a Greater Boring Area Community Center.”
