Community Yard Sale Returns for Its Third Season of Fun, Fundraising, and Treasure Hunting

By Creabba Gallegos, For The Sandy Standard

The Hull Foundation and Learning Center is preparing for its third community yard sale. Welcoming neighbors, friends, and visitors for a weekend of treasure hunting and, plant shopping, all while supporting a local nonprofit.

After launching the event last fall, and seeing even greater success during the spring sale, I expect this season’s fundraiser to continue the trend of strong participation and steady foot traffic.

This year’s yard sale and plant sale will be held Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oral Hull Park in the picnic shelter area.

The event has become a favorite among our staff and community members, offering a lively environment where shoppers can browse unique items, discover bargains, and enjoy the late-summer weather. With plants also available for purchase, attendees can look forward to a mix of household goods, mostly indoor plants, and unexpected treasures.

Participation is open to anyone, regardless of where they live. The Foundation invites individuals from all surrounding communities to join the event as sellers. For a $25 donation, participants receive access to unlimited space to set up their own sale area. Sellers must bring their own tables, canopies, and supplies, and are responsible for managing their designated spot throughout the event. This flexible format has contributed to the success of previous sales, allowing participants to create inviting displays that draw in shoppers and encourage browsing.

The spring sale was the most profitable to date, thanks to strong community engagement and consistent turnout throughout the weekend. I anticipate similar enthusiasm this fall, especially as the event continues to grow in visibility and participation. Anyone with items to clear out of their home or a desire to support a meaningful cause is encouraged to reserve a space. Spots can be reserved by calling the office at 503 - 668 - 6195.

Funds raised through the community yard sale directly support the maintenance of Oral Hull Park grounds and facilities, ensuring the space remains welcoming and accessible for all who visit. In addition, proceeds help sustain the Hull Foundation and Learning Center’s programs for adults with sight loss and blindness.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation relies on community involvement to continue offering essential services, such as our sight loss monthly newsletter, vision assessments, Zoom workshops, multi-day sight loss seminars, monthly social activities, and adventure retreats. These programs promote confidence and independence in those affected by sight loss and blindness.

Whether you are searching for bargains, looking for plants to brighten your home, or simply hoping to enjoy a fun weekend activity, the community yard sale offers something for everyone. With two days of open-air shopping and a welcoming atmosphere, it is an ideal opportunity to support a meaningful cause while enjoying time with neighbors and friends.

The Hull Foundation and Learning Center looks forward to welcoming returning participants and fresh faces as the community comes together once again for a weekend of fun and fundraising.
