I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! 2026 has arrived, and the city operations are moving along at full speed. Winterfest events concluded in early January, and I am happy to report that there were 39,000 visits to Meinig Park during this holiday season. What an amazing opportunity to enjoy the holiday lights, participate in fun events, and meet City staff and elected officials. Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed the experience! A special ‘thank you’ to all our sponsors, vendors, and volunteers who helped make the events that much more special.
In addition to all the wonderful offerings at Meinig Park, I am excited to share that Deer Point Park is nearing completion. This 3.16-acre park in the Deer Pointe subdivision (on Meadow Avenue) has been years in the making and offers a looped path, picnic shelter, covered full court basketball court, and inclusive play amenities. The park’s grand opening is scheduled for early February, and we are thrilled for the neighbors in this area of town to have a new park to enjoy year-round. Check it out the next time you are in the area!
The City’s annual audit for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2025 has concluded and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) is now available on the City’s website (https://www.ci.sandy.or.us/finance/page/audits). The audit resulted in an unmodified opinion from our auditing firm, meaning that the financial statements present fairly in all material respects. The City has received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 34 years and fully expects to receive this award again with the most recent ACFR.
With our continued commitment to fiscal transparency, the Finance Department also prepares a Popular Annual Financial Report which is designed to be a more digestible and reader-friendly summary of the much larger ACFR. As always, City staff are happy to meet with you to answer any questions about the City and how departments and programs are funded.
Sandy’s Public Works staff recently installed additional stop signs at the intersection of Bell Street and Jewelberry Avenue. This intersection is now a three-way stop, aimed at improving the flow of traffic and allowing for better pedestrian crossings near the high school. Please be mindful of the change in traffic patterns as you navigate this section of road.
Speaking of safety improvements, the City Council will be having a work session in February to discuss all things related to traffic safety. This is in alignment with City Council Goal 1.3, which states “Continue to implement a traffic safety and speed enforcement program, including deployment of technology that will assist with enforcement and gather accurate speed data in areas of concern with the city.” The work session will be focused on pedestrian safety and crosswalks, driver feedback signs, and the potential use of additional technology like photo radar to improve safety for all our community members.

Pedestrian and driver safety is paramount to keeping the City of Sandy a safe and enjoyable place to live and work.
