Greetings from City Hall!
By Tyler Deems, for The Sandy Standard
Spring programming is in full swing here in Sandy, and I am happy to report that both our teen flashlight and adult egg hunts were a success in early April. We are excited to bring back our Yappy Hour K-9 Karnival again this year on Thursday, May 14th at Sandy Bluff Park. We hope you can make it! Speaking of programming, did you know that the City publishes a Recreation Guide each quarter? Our Recreation Guide is packed full of resources and information for all the City’s parks, recreation, senior, and library events. You can find the Guide at: https://www.ci.sandy.or.us/parks-rec.
The Mount Hood Farmers Market is set to return in May. The City of Sandy will have a booth every Friday from May to October, with a variety of different City staff and departments rotating each week. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for community members to check in with the City, ask questions, learn more about existing and upcoming projects, and engage with staff and other City representatives. There is also the potential to check out our trolley or mobile library a handful of times throughout the season. Staff is looking forward to connecting with our community members in a new way – we hope to see you there!
The City continues to work to address traffic and pedestrian safety issues throughout the Highway 26 corridor. In October 2024, the City submitted a request to Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to investigate the potential for reducing speeds between Ten Eyck Road and Canyon Valley Road. ODOT conducted an investigation in November 2025 and recommended a slight reduction in speed between Langensand Road and Canyon Valley Road; unfortunately, no reduction in speed between Ten Eyck Road and Langensand Road was recommended. The City will be discussing the recommendation from ODOT and determining what other options are available to improve compliance and safety along this stretch of highway. In addition, the Council discussed the use of traffic technology to improve safety in late April. No decisions have been made at this time, and additional information will be provided when available.
During the month of May, the City Council will review the updated Wastewater Facility Plan Amendment – the guiding document for investment in the City’s wastewater system. This work is vital for improving and expanding the City’s wastewater infrastructure. The Plan Amendment is required as part of the consent decree between the City of Sandy and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2023. The Council will consider adopting the Wastewater Facility Plan Amendment in June. Other upcoming City Council items include the consideration of adopting modifications to the Municipal Code for nuisances affecting public peace, specifically noise and door-to-door solicitation, and consideration of a new moratorium related to development. The Council will also be receiving presentations from both the Sandy Community Action Center and Mt. Hood Community College.
Sandy City Council meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month at Sandy City Hall, 39250 Pioneer Boulevard. These meetings are open to the public, both in person and virtually. The agenda is typically published the Thursday prior to the meeting. Each agenda contains a Zoom link for those who wish to attend virtually. Come check us out and learn more about what is happening with the City!
Cheers!
