Spooky Halloween festivities are returning to Oral Hull Park with a haunted house, costume contest, games, crafts, and other fall activities for the whole family.

The Hull Foundation and Learning Center is slated to host its third annual Hull-O-Ween Fun Night on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Oral Hull Park, 43233 S.E. Oral Hull Rd., in Sandy.

The main attraction is the Haunted House, which will be open throughout the evening. Admission to the haunted house is $5, with attendees receiving a bracelet that allows them to enter at their convenience throughout the night.

The haunted night begins inside the Rainbow Lodge, where attendees can participate in free activities including indoor games, candy stations, and a fall favorite movie. A snack box with hot apple cider and snacks will also be available for purchase.

For those ready for a scare, signs will direct haunted-house visitors out the back door of the lodge and through the garden to the building housing the attraction.

“We have an incredible property with a lot of potential,” said Hull Foundation Executive Director Creanna Gallegos. “It’s close to town, offers plenty of space, and as a nonprofit stewarding 23 acres, we carry significant financial responsibility to maintain our facilities, property, and programs.”

The idea for the haunted house came from one of the Hull Foundation’s getaway programs for adults who are blind or experiencing sight loss.

“The event is a four-day, three-night Halloween-themed retreat, and the haunted house our staff created quickly became a favorite activity,” Gallegos said.

The foundation decided to bring the attraction to the wider Sandy community, creating an event designed to complement other local Halloween traditions.

“Sandy Chamber’s Trick-or-Treat Trail and the community’s annual trunk-or-treat are wonderful ways for families to celebrate, but we felt there was room for a little more Halloween \[spirit\],” Gallegos said.

The event is designed for all ages, with crafts, games and a movie offered in addition to the haunted house. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult while going through the haunted house.

A costume contest will also be held, with participants asked to be present in the Rainbow Lodge by 6:45 p.m. The winner will be announced at 7 p.m.

“We do encourage people to come fully dressed in their costumes, regardless of if they’re participating in the costume contest or not, to add to the fun,” Gallegos said.

This is the third year for the Haunted House event. The first year brought an estimated 100 to 150 people through the attraction, she said.

“We are hopeful that this year we will see another great year, especially because we are doing a lot of work in getting the word out,” Gallegos said.

While the event is intended to provide Halloween fun for the community, proceeds support the Hull Foundation and Learning Center’s mission.

“While we really are hosting this event to add to the holiday fun for the community, the heart of this event is to fundraise for our mission,” Gallegos said.

The Hull Foundation provides facilities and services for social, educational and recreational activities for adults with sight loss and blindness.

“Coming down to the Foundation, participating in our haunted house, you really get the best of both worlds – having a fun little outing while also supporting an amazing cause!” Gallegos said.

Gallegos also thanked community members who have donated decorations, snacks and attractions for the event, as well as Scouts Troop 662, which has volunteered at the event each year.

The event is open to the public. Admission to the broader Hull-O-Ween Fun Night is free, while the Haunted House costs $5.
