As part of their mission to serve the community — regardless of ability to pay or prior affiliation with the organization — Mt. Hood Hospice now partners with the Sandy Senior Center to offer a range of workshops.

Mt. Hood Hospice is a nonprofit hospice organization based right here in Sandy, and these programs are hosted at the Sandy Senior Center, at 38348 Pioneer Blvd..

“Grief touches every family at some point, and no one should have to navigate it alone,” said Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator Jolie Phanton. “By partnering with the senior center, we’re able to offer a safe, welcoming space where people can share, heal, and feel supported — at no cost — because access to grief care should never depend on someone’s ability to pay.”

The schedule of events for the beginning of 2026 is as follows:

- Tuesday, Jan 27, from 11 a.m. to noon, the Threshold singers will perform and a labyrinth will be built on-site for people to traverse in mindful meditation. Experience connection, reflection, and gentle soothing music and song. This program will focus on those feeling the weight of grief or transitions, and meditative walking through the labyrinth helps process feelings.
  - That same day from 12:45-2 p.m., hospice interns will facilitate an art and grief workshop, which was rescheduled from December. This program is meant to be a source of comfort and transformation for those navigating the journey of grief. No experience is required to participate.
- Tuesday, Feb. 17, from 12:45-2 p.m. there will be Mt. Hood Hospice’s program: Holding Grief Gently: a conversation exploring ways grief can impact us and how to support others adjusting after a big loss.
- Tuesday, March 17, from 12:45-2 p.m. hospice staff will facilitate a grief and writing workshop, which allows people to creatively process and express feelings of grief through the written word.
- Tuesday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to noon, the Threshold Singers and Labyrinth will return to the center for another hour of opportunity for peaceful meditation together.
  - And that same day – from 12:45-2 p.m. – will include a workshop on securing your legacy: a conversation about Advance Care Planning and how you can give your family peace of mind. Hospice staff advise that making decisions now is one of the greatest gifts you could give.
- And Tuesday, May 19, from 12:45-2 p.m. hospice staff will facilitate another Grief and Art workshop.

All of these programs are free of charge to attend. People can call the Senior Center at 503-668-5569 to register.
