Every November, Mt. Hood Hospice offers an online Time of Remembering remembrance event. The first online event was created as a way to gather and remember loved ones when getting together in person was not possible in November 2020 because of COVID-19 pandemic precautions.
It has continued because it creates a space for individuals and families who live both locally and outside of the Sandy area to come together and honor deceased loved ones prior to the end of the year and holiday business.
The event offers an hour of pause, reflection and collective recognition that amidst the hustle and bustle, people are grieving and missing people, pets and other losses in their lives.
Typically, the event features live music provided by Heather Michet, a local Sandy songstress, and singers from two chapters of the Threshold Singers. There is a poetry reading, candle lighting and slideshow of those being honored.
This year’s event will be Thursday, Nov. 12, from 7-8 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time). Attendees receive a packet in the mail in early November that includes a program for the event, list of those being honored and other items.
To attend and/or have your loved ones included in the event, you can email names and photos to event@mthoodhospice.org by Oct. 5.
This year’s in-person event on Aug. 27, brought in 140 people from 64 households, to honot 271 individuals, of which 41 were veterans.
A host of volunteers and community partners helped make the in-person event at Hull Foundation and Learning Center possible, including Trish Smith of Pure intuitive (soundbath), Cascadia Village Senior Living by Cogir (stone painting table), Sandy Library (mobile library with grief related resources), VFW post and auxillary #4273 (missing man table), local songstress Heather Michet (stolling the paths singing), Portland and Sandy River chapters of the Threshold Singers, and the Hull Foundation for providing a venue for the event.
Additional information on the virtual event is available online at mthoodhospice.org under the community services section on the Time of Remembering tab.
