Sandy Actors Theatre in Sandy continues its “Season of Simon” with Chapter Two, a romantic comedy by Neil Simon.

Directed by Ron K. Palmblad, the production runs April 24 through May 17th, with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available online at sandyactorstheatre.com or at the door.

First produced in 1977 and widely considered one of Simon’s most personal works,  Chapter Two follows George Schneider, a writer struggling to move forward after the death of his wife. When he unexpectedly begins a relationship with Jennie Malone, an actress recovering from divorce, both must confront lingering grief and the challenge of starting over.

Palmblad believes the play’s emotional core remains deeply relevant today. “It’s about the fear of letting go of something you’ve clung to for so long,” he says. “Sometimes that pain becomes part of who you are, and it can be hard to imagine life without it.”

Actor Patrick Roth, who portrays George, says the role requires exploring the character’s complicated relationship with grief and change. “George is afraid to move on,” Roth says. “But I think he eventually realizes that it’s okay to have grief... and it’s also okay to keep living.”

Roth admits that the role presents a significant challenge. “This show terrifies me,” he says with a laugh “It’s definitely an acting challenge.”

In addition to its theatrical productions, Sandy Actors Theatre continues expanding its artistic offerings. Back by popular demand, stand-up comedy returns with “Guess Who?”, a showcase featuring performers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

The performance will take place Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available online or at the door.

Beyond the stories unfolding on stage, these productions also reflect the spirit of community theatre. Local theatres like Sandy Actors Theatre depend on volunteers, artists, and audiences working together to create shared cultural experiences. Productions like Chapter Two bring neighbors together to laugh, reflect, and support the arts close to home.
