Sandy Cruisin' Car Show Set For September 12

By Daniel Crawford, The Sandy Standard

It is time to get your motor running and head out on the highway straight to the 28th Sandy Cruisin’ Car Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Saturday, Sept. 12 at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 18090 Langensand Road.

Breakfast will be served by local favorite Craig Calvert. The morning menu will feature bacon, scrambled eggs, and biscuits with gravy. The lunchtime menu will have chili dogs. The dessert bar will be open all day, serving both hot and cold drinks, along with delectable delights.

The classic cars on display will be accompanied by class tunes from the 50s and 60s, provided by 2 Guys Sound. That said, the show is sure to feature a wide assortment of vehicles from different eras, including hot rods, customs, lowriders, pickups and possibly even a ratrod.

The dress code is come as you are, but car lovers are welcome to embrace the theme of the day and don poodle skirts and lettermans jackets, if they so choose.

The Sandy Cruisin’ Car Show orchestrators Rick and Annie Chambers are so proud to be involved in what has now become one of the largest car shows in Oregon. Last year set another record of car entries, at 280. Rick and Annie are anticipating another record-setting year.

Because of the show’s ever-growing popularity, Father Gregg Bronsema of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church said they “have outgrown our parking lot.”

“We are now using our grass field,” he explained. “I don’t know, maybe we will make it to the street someday?”

Rick and Annie attribute the event’s growth in part to the loss of other shows around the state during and after the pandemic.

“During the COVID era, all of the car shows were shut down,” the Chambers said. “Ours re-opened in 2022, and there were so many that did not. So the car show crowd came to our show. Then it started growing really quickly, and it hasn’t stopped.”

The event organizers would like to thank Washman Car Wash and  Sandy Les Schwab for sponsoring the Sandy Cruisin’ Car Show this year.

Organizers  are still accepting donations for the raffle. Tried and true past donations have included furniture, bicycles, tools, desks, and even a doll collection.

The 2026 Crusin’ Car Show t-shirt is available for pre-order for those looking for a commemorative item to take home. Proceeds from the raffle and shirt sales, will be divided between the church’s missions and the Salvation Army.

More than 100 volunteers and parishioners give of their time for the event, so that all can have an enjoyable experience.

“The best part of this whole thing is seeing the people happy,” said Rick Chambers.
