Sandy Library to host after hours Monte Carlo night for a cause
By Brit Allen, The Sandy Standard
After years of dreaming, the Sandy and Hoodland Libraries now have a mobile library. It’s already out in the communities, being used to bring media and resources to those unable to come to the brick-and-mortar libraries and to offer fun lessons to kids in the Oregon Trail School District.
For over a year, the library district staff have hosted a donation drive to defer costs to outfit the new vehicle with shelves and equipment to provide materials, classes and programs on the go. And while the vehicle is now fully operable, thanks to the city’s fronting of part of the money for the project, the library still needs to hit their goal in order to pay that loan back.

What better way to raise those funds than to offer a night of fun for those 21 and over in the library after hours?
From 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, the library will host a Monte Carlo Night fundraiser, with games, live music, food and drinks among the stacks. Games will include Texas Hold’em, black jack, roulette, and craps. Food and drinks are included in the ticket cost.
People with the most chips at the end of the evening win prizes, which will include a two-night stay at the Burke Cabin on Mount Hood valued at $500. Tickets can be purchased at the Sandy or Hoodland Library for $40 each, or two for $75 (when you present a library card).
The Sandy and Hoodland Libraries still need to raise about $50,000 before June 30, 2027. So far, the City of Sandy Budget Committee gave $150,000 toward the total project, and the libraries have brought in $75,000 in grants and $34,000 in individual donations.
For those unable to attend Monte Carlo Night, or looking for another way they can contribute to the fundraiser, the library will once again partner with a selection of local eateries for the Dine Around Sandy program. Each business will donate a portion of their proceeds from these specific days and times to the endeavor.
The schedule for the program is as follows:
- From 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 – Boring Brewing (20% of sales)
- From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 – Dairy Queen of Sandy (10% of sales)
- From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 – Scoop ‘n Swirl (20% of sales)
- From noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22 – Brady’s Brats & Burgers (10% of sales)
- From noon to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 – Bigfoot Growlers II (15% of sales)
- From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 – Mt. Pizza & Brews (20% of sales)
More locations are to be added to this schedule for October, so keep an eye on the Library’s social media or website for updates.
Multiple local businesses have also already signed up to sponsor the Monte Carlo Night, including AEC, Sandbar BBQ and Rotary Club of Sandy. The library is still accepting sponsorships, and those interested can contact Library Director Sarah McIntyre at smcintyre@ci.sandy.or.us.
