SANDY VOTERS SAID “NO” TO FIRE DISTRICT ANNEXATION

SANDY VOTERS SAID “NO” TO FIRE DISTRICT ANNEXATION

In November of 2025, Sandy voters said “No” to incorporating the Sandy Fire District. The measure hoped to dissolve and annex Sandy Fire District into Clackamas Fire, who is currently under a contract.

Four most alarming concerns:

  • Gaming the voter system:  Putting the same measure before the voters five months later in the May 19th 2026 primary election disrespects every voter who voted “No”. This erodes trust in our leaders and indicates they have not listened!
  • Annexation will lead to higher property taxes up to $2.40 per $1000 assessed value, during a critical economic time for property owners, without a guaranteed, proportional increase in the quality or speed of service. A home assessed at $400,000 would pay $960 a year.
  • The Sandy Fire District has provided tailored services to our community. Annexation into a larger district means losing local oversight, moving decision-making power to a board that may not fully understand the specific needs of Sandy residents.
  • Merging into a larger regional district could lead to resources being stretched thinner, potentially affecting response times in outlying rural areas, which differ from urbanized Clackamas Fire areas.

While I appreciate the efforts of fire professionals to ensure safety through annexation, I believe the long-term, stable, and local nature of our current, independent district is better for the Sandy community.

I urge a NO VOTE on Measure 3-634 and encourage the Sandy Fire Board of Directors to explore other cooperative agreements that do not require merging the districts or increasing our property taxes.

Laura U., Sandy
