When Suzanne Jackson opened Mt Pizza and Brews last May, she was no stranger to working in the food industry. Her parents ran a coffee shop when she was a teen, and she and her father, Wayne Slagle, previously co-owned the Cascade Locks Ale House – with two of Jackson’s friends – from 2012-2017.

She was new to running a business in Sandy, and has been pleasantly surprised by the positive response she has received since turning the former Le Happy Creperie at 38687 Proctor Blvd., into a small-town pizzeria.

“It feels great. It's been a wild ride for sure, but I have met so many great people in this town,” Jackson explained. “I really appreciate all of the support and meeting so many new friends. I didn't expect all of the community support and involvement.”

To thank the community for their support, and celebrate a milestone, Jackson will host an all-day anniversary party from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 24.

That day will include a variety of activities, including face painting, raffles with prizes, a singing contest, a stein-holding contest, a pizza tossing contest, live music by Michael Opperman (Big Country), and more. Jackson said they will also have cheese (should this be cheese pizza slices? slices for a dollar for a limited time.

“I’m feeling really good, business has seen continuous growth, and now I have a better understanding of the community and its needs,” she explained. “I love to party. We're really excited about May 24.”

In Mt Pizza’s first year in business, Jackson has truly made a name for herself in Sandy, enmeshing herself in the community.

She has partnered with several community organizations, sports teams, and more, to not only promote her business, but serve her neighbors.

Most recently, she catered the Sandy father-daughter dance at a discount; last fall she participated in the annual Camo Con fundraiser, along with hosting other Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce and Sandy Business Exchange events. She’s facilitated fundraisers for groups like the Golden Spikes, the Sandy Public Library and the Sandy High School Music Foundation (to name a few).

Mt Pizza has also been the site of numerous private parties, paint nights, live music shows, line dancing nights, and wine, beer, and cider tastings.

Jackson added that while Mt Pizza has hosted several events and gatherings, she’s been surprised by the number of delivery and takeout orders they get, and is happy to be so many people’s source for pizza night.

This month the patio will reopen for outdoor dining, as well as fun outside games like foosball and cornhole. Jackson is also working on creating more outdoor dining space.

“I'm working on the outside a lot to make it more inviting and get more people to come in,” she explained. “I'm constantly working on ways to invite people in and to make the space more fun.”

Aside from the events, games, and ample outdoor seating, Jackson likes to keep things interesting with rotating seasonal items on the menu — beer and food alike. In May, there will be fiesta-themed dishes in honor of Cinco de Mayo.

“We want to thank everyone for the support,” Jackson added. “We've really appreciated all of the events — that people thought of us and included us.”

Mt. Pizza is open now every day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and offers pizza by the slice from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. They offer delivery on Uber Eats and you can order to-go, aside from enjoying the sitdown experience at the restaurant.
