As we enter the heart of summer, Mt. Hood Hospice is preparing for its annual outdoor event — the Time of Remembering. Due to construction taking place in Meinig Memorial Park, this year’s program will be in a new location: the Hull Foundation and Learning Center.
From 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, all are welcome to come to the Hull Foundation, 43233 S.E. Oral Hull Rd, Sandy, to experience the event which focuses on providing a space of healing and remembrance for those who’ve lost loved ones (regardless of if they were cared for by Mt. Hood Hospice), as well as resources like books on grief and information on support groups.
Mt. Hood Hospice is a nonprofit hospice based in Sandy, which serves people in need of end-of-life care in their homes throughout Clackamas and East Multnomah Counties, regardless of their ability to pay.
This year’s event will include music performed by the Sandy River and Portland Threshold Singers and roaming songstress Heather Michet, sound baths with Trish Smith, Pure Intuitive Guide, a wind phone, memorial stone painting, a library of grief-related books to browse from the Sandy Public Library, and a Missing Man table (provided by the Sandy VFW). The event is a fluid experience without a set schedule. Photos and names of people’s loved ones will be hung throughout the Five Senses Garden and around the area for people to peacefully peruse, and the stone painting, library, and info tables will have their own spaces.
“I’m looking forward to exploring new opportunities for this event with this new partnership,” said Director of Bereavement Services Laura Lirette. “I’m curious to see how returning participants respond to it being in a new space.”
Last year about 200 people attended the in-person event, and around 380 people were honored.
Those who would like to have a photo of their loved one hung for the event are encouraged to send a photo, name, and branch of military service if applicable to event@mthoodhospice.org by end of day Wednesday, July 29.
“I’m really excited to welcome back individuals who’ve participated in the past, and new people as well,” Lirette added.
If you can’t make the Aug. 27 outdoor event, Mt. Hood Hospice will host a virtual version of the Time of Remembering at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. For more information about that event, and to RSVP and receive the Zoom link, contact Lirette at llirette@mthoodhospice.org.
