By Ken Harrison, For The Sandy Standard

The Kiwanis Club of Sandy has been serving the community of Sandy since June 1947. It is an organization that has attracted men and women from various trades and professions around town. They came together supporting our club’s main purpose:  …to improve the quality of life for children and families worldwide.

To aid in achieving our purpose, we adhere to the objects of Kiwanis International:

To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

To promote the adoption and application of higher social, business, and professional standards.

To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

To provide, through this club, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build a better community.

To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

It is by adhering to these objectives that we plan and implement each of our events. The

Kiwanis Club of Sandy currently sponsors or participates in the following:

Key Club at Sandy High School

Youth Work Force

Scouting America, Pack 248, Troop 662

Easter Egg Hunt

 5 High School Scholarships

Mt Hood Kiwanis Camp

Doernbecher Children's Hospital

Gales Creek Camp

FFA  at Sandy High School

4H

Sandy Mountain Festival Ice Cream Booth

Kiwanis Breakfast and Cruise-in

Sportsman’s Breakfast, – in partnership with    Clackamas Fire at Sandy

Christmas Basket

Some of the events are designed to make enough money to finance our activities. An example is the Sportsman’s Breakfast, which funds the scholarships we give to seniors wishing to go on to study fire science or EMS after graduation.

While we are nowhere near perfect, we sincerely strive to remember we are here to serve and to support all the children of this community. After each event, we review what went well and what needed improvement. We then apply those lessons to our next event.

The Club is always interested in feedback from those who attend our events. After all, if you do not participate or support what we try to do to improve the quality of life for children, there really is no valid reason to continue.

The Club is looking for new members: why not you? Get on our webpage, Sandykiwanis.org and fill out an application. You can help plan our next event or activity. We’d love to count you as a member!
