Place of birth: Portland, Oregon
How long on in Sandy: I’ve lived in Sandy 11 years, almost 12
If you were not brought here as a child, what brought you to the area: I was ??
Profession: I’m working at the community center as a building monitor
Other professions: I’ve been working on my associates in fire science and technology. I am volunteering at Corbett fire department with plans to work as a career firefighter somewhere around the Sandy area in the future.
Favorites:
Movie/and or Musical: My favorite movie is the Princess Bride for it’s charm
Actress and Actor: I guess if I had to choose I’d name Brad Pitt as my favorite actor
TV show: HunterXHunter is my all time favorite show.
Book: The Old Man and the Sea.
Type of music: Lately I’ve been exploring indie punk, but overall, I’d say I like a lot of different genres of music.
Food: I’m not too picky. Anything high in protein for the sake of gains.
Hobbies: I spend a lot of time in the gym. Outside of that I like playing games. Softball, volleyball and tennis are the most common for me – although these are really only summer activities.
If offered a dream vacation, where would you go, and why: I’d stay home. There are definitely places I’d like to visit and things I’d like to do for the sake of experiencing them. But I never feel rested after a vacation. A true vacation for me would be a guilt free week of free time.
Best lesson learned as a child: Growing up, my dad always used to say “if you don't get hurt you're not playing hard enough.” Of course getting hurt is never the goal, but to be praised for being reckless instilled simple ideals in me. Most of all, doing something without giving it 100% out of fear for failure or pain is a waste of potential. It also gave me pride in getting back up.
A memorable dinner: Thanksgiving in general. I can’t pick out just one specifically.
If you could invite anyone (past or present) to dinner, who would it be, and why: I’d invite my friend. I’m not the most social person and I find meeting new people a very awkward experience. It may be a waste, but I’d rather enjoy my meal with a friend I’m fond of than use the chance to meet someone of high status or historical significance.
Describe yourself in one word: Centered
When you're not reading The Sandy Standard, what book/author/magazine/other do you read: Currently, I’m reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Moby Dick. I’m trying to cover the classics. It’d be dishonest to say I like to read or that I read often, but I try to read a few pages every morning. CNN is my go to when it comes to the news and current events.
Pet peeve: I hate when shows waste time with recaps. The only purpose is to use up air time so that the creators have to put less into the actual episode. If I didn’t remember what happened last time I wouldn’t care enough to watch the show.
Bad habit you’d like to break: I’m a textbook procrastinator. I’ll get the work done, but I’ll wait until I absolutely need to do it before I start. My time management skills could definitely use improvement.
Favorite quote: “In the grand scheme of things, does it really matter”? By Ms Moem. This may seem nihilistic, but I never took it that way. I really appreciate this quote. It takes the stress out of situations that might seem immensely important. When facing a test or a situation that brought me anxiety, this quote would remind me that in the grand scheme of my life, this moment isn’t all that important. I most likely won’t even remember this in the next 20 years. That thought made the object of my stress seem small and insignificant.
Favorite part of The Sandy Standard: The calendar. It keeps me updated on community events.
