Promote Literacy By Eating Pie!

July 11th-12th, you’ll find the Sandy Rotary Club back at the Sandy Mountain Festival in Meinig Park serving up our well-loved hand pies – choose apple or mixed berry. Made from scratch and always a crowd favorite, these treats do more than satisfy an appetite: proceeds help fund a literacy program that provides a new book to every child in kindergarten through second grade in the Oregon Trail School District.

The proceeds from each pie sold provides one brand-new book for a child. You enjoy a treat and a child gets a gift. It’s a simple purchase that makes a direct and lasting impact.

All summer long, Rotary members are also rolling up their sleeves at the Sandy Community Gardens in Bornstedt Park. On the third Wednesday of each month from 4 to 5 p.m., we gather to weed, maintain, and help the garden thrive as a shared community space.

Anyone is welcome to join. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just looking for a way to give back, it’s an easy way to spend time outdoors, meet neighbors, and support a valuable local resource.

Sandy Rotary is part of Rotary International, a global network of 1.2 million members, but our focus is right here at home. From promoting youth literacy to supporting the community garden, we’re committed to hands-on projects that benefit Sandy.

If you’d like to learn more, we meet at 4:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays each month at the Sandy Fire Annex (17459 Bruns Ave), just across from the fire station. Visitors are always welcome.

Whether it’s at the festival, in the garden, or at a meeting, we hope to see you soon.
