Soon, community members, teachers, and local officials will come together for a meaningful rededication ceremony of the Oregon Trail Academy, to pay tribute to the late Jean Lundy, a trailblazer whose significant legacy continues to shape the Oregon Trail School District. The event will recognize Lundy’s remarkable 32 years of service to Cottrell School and the wider district, as well as her historic achievement as the first woman to serve as Superintendent of Oregon.

Jean Lundy was first honored by the Board of Directors on October 16, 1983, with the rededication of the Cottrell School Building, now named the Jean Lundy Building. Lundy expressed at the time that “she didn’t expect this honor and was extremely grateful.”

The speakers will stress that the rededication goes beyond symbolism – it is a renewed commitment to the principles she stood for: integrity, service, advocacy, and the conviction that uplifting others is essential to building strong communities. Placing her name once again in a prominent space will serve as a reminder to future generations of her enduring influence and the spirit she brought to her work.

Graysen Gale organized the ceremony as part of his 8th Grade Community Service Project at Oregon Trail Academy. Graysen’s commitment to honoring Jean Lundy’s legacy reflects the impact Lundy had not only on the district’s history, but also on inspiring young leaders to serve their community with purpose and heart.
