Place of birth: Albuquerque, NM

How long have you lived in Sandy: In the late 80s, I lived in Welches, then moved back to Sandy 10 years ago in 2016

If you were not brought here as a child, what brought you to the area? My Dad was the first architect to work with Fred Meyer's first location. So we moved here to Beaverton when I was in the 2nd grade – to Sexton Mountain area, but we only stayed for a year. Then we moved to Welches, where my mom worked as the PE teacher in the lower building at Welches School.

Profession: Currently doing marketing at Guild Mortgage.

Other professions: I started out as a vet tech and spent ten years in the field, but eventually stepped away when rising costs and shifting priorities made it feel less about caring for animals and more about dollars and cents. From there, I let curiosity guide me. I cooked in a farm-to-table restaurant, bartended, worked as an Educational Assistant, and then spent a decade in the screen-print, embroidery, and promo products world. I designed custom webstores, ran the Program Sales Department, and even collaborated with major brands like Nike — experiences that still stand out as some of the most amazing chapters of my career.

Favorites: Working with Nike and helping bring people’s brands and webstores to life was something I truly loved — there’s nothing like watching someone’s vision turn into something real. But stepping into my role at Guild has honestly been life-changing. I’ve never been part of a company that genuinely cares for its people the way Guild does. I love what I do now, and seeing someone’s brand take shape, knowing I helped make that happen, is deeply fulfilling in a way I didn’t know a job could be.

Movie/and or Musical: Oh that is hard!!! I have loved musicals since I was barely walking. My first favorite was “7 Brides for 7 Brothers” or “Grease,” and at that stage of life, my favorite movie was “Circle of Friends” or “Earth Girls are Easy.” Then, when I was in my 20s, it would have been “Rent” or “Newsies” for sure. Knew all the words of both by heart. My favorite movie would have been “Dazed and Confused” or “Breakfast Club”. Now? My favorite musical would have to be “My Fair Lady” and “The Greatest Showman,” and movies would be anything sci-fi, pretty much.

Actress and Actor: Keanu Reeves and Audrey Hepburn

TV show: Anything Star Trek!

Book: “The Gate to Women’s Country,” Sherri S Tepper

Type of music: I love all music, Sublime, Tool, CCR, Paul Simon, Bob Marley, Janis Joplin, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Lainey Wilson, Post Malone, soooo many!

Food: Being a chef, I love cooking and eating so many foods, but I really love good desserts. I love getting a cake from Tollgate for no reason or making macarons on a Tuesday evening!

Hobbies: I love painting and doing art but don’t get to do it much. I love playing DnD and Magic The Gathering with friends. Anything creative is my go-to!

If offered a dream vacation, where would you go, and why: I would go to the Isle of Skye in Scotland to see the purple trees. It was the last hold-up for the Druids and is a magical place. I am Scottish, too, so it would be amazing to see that area!

Best lesson learned as a child: Be careful which bridges you burn; you may need to cross them again someday.

Defining moment in your life or your greatest accomplishment: Being a mom! Hands down! My daughter saved my life and seeing her for the first time changed my world for the better. Nothing was the same again, and I have never been prouder!

A memorable dinner: My husband took me to Ruth’s Chris Steak House and rented a room for us downtown in Portland for our anniversary. They made everything perfect and the desserts were to die for! Then we went to the BLM protests and experienced that ,too, which I had not done since I was like 20. What an experience! I still have the pin from the teargas bomb that was thrown at us! Memento!

A funny moment from your life that you can share: On our first trip to Disneyland, my kids conned me into riding the Guardians of the Galaxy ‘drop‑of‑doom’ ride.

‘It’s only 8 seconds, Mom! It only drops once!’ they promised.

Lies. Absolute lies. I spent the entire ride with my eyes glued shut, screaming directly into my son’s ear while clinging to my daughter’s leg like it was a lifeline. It was not 8 seconds — it felt like eight years. Never again.

If you could invite anyone (past or present) to dinner, who would it be, and why: My grandmother, Nettie. She died when I was 1 year old. She was apparently amazing, so I would love to have a chat with her!

Describe yourself in one word: Maelstrom

When you're not reading The Sandy Standard, what book/author/magazine/other do you read: Mercy Thompson series written by Patricia Briggs

If your life were made into a play or movie, what would the title be: “Beautifully Unscripted: Built from Grit and Glitter.”

Pet peeve: Not wiping the sink!

Bad habit you’d like to break: chewing my nails!

Famous person(s) you have met, and the circumstances: I met Tom Cruise once — and trust me, once was enough. I was housecleaning for the summer and helping a friend who cleaned his mansion in Telluride. He walked in and immediately did the full white-glove inspection on her. It was wild. I still remember how surprisingly short he was, and how he pointed that glove at her after she told him the room wasn’t finished yet. The whole thing was absolutely insane. I haven’t watched one of his movies since.

Favorite quote: “Live and let live.”

Favorite part of The Sandy Standard: The idea of a new and fresh perspective for the community!
