It’s such an exciting time of year — summer is just around the corner, and with it comes one of life’s biggest milestones for many young people: high school graduation. It’s a season filled with celebrations, accomplishments, and excitement about the future. Some graduates are stepping directly into careers, some are continuing their education, and others are still discovering what path lies ahead.
For over 30 years, one of the ways the Sandy Kiwanis Club continues to support the youth of our community is through our annual high school senior scholarships. Each year, we award five individual scholarships funded through our community events and generous donations from long-time Kiwanis members who want to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
The Sportsman’s Breakfast funds two scholarships for seniors pursuing studies in fire science or EMS. This year’s Sportsman’s Breakfast will be held on October 3, 2026. Our Breakfast and Cruise-In funds two general scholarships for seniors who demonstrate strong community involvement and volunteer spirit. This year’s Breakfast and Cruise-In will take place on July 26, 2026. Our final scholarship, the Les Geren Memorial Scholarship, is awarded to a senior pursuing studies in agricultural science or a related field.
These scholarships are just one of the many ways Sandy Kiwanis gives back to our community. Long before I became a Kiwanis member, my own daughter was a recipient of one of these scholarships. I can personally say it was an immense help and eased the financial burden of college — something our family remains forever grateful for.
So, when you attend one of our events, purchase a world-famous Kiwanis Bar at the Cruise-In, enjoy breakfast at the Sandy Fire Station, or sponsor one of our many community activities, know that your support goes directly back into the Sandy community to help local youth.
